2023, and Jet Li is alive and healthy

Li is 60 years as of 2023 and it feels really good to see the man healthy and taking care of himself. Well, to break down the reason why he is so concerned about taking care of himself is because of a disease.

    What Happened To Jet Li?

Back in 2010, Jet Li was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism is a condition or a problem in which the body produces excessive amounts of thyroid hormones. Excessive hormones can get so bad that it eventually leads to anxiety, depression, heart problems, and alterations in the metabolism.

Facing the disease for more than 10 years now, his body cannot handle a lot of physically intensive movie roles. He also talked about his disease in 2013 saying: “I’m fat. I don’t have the time to lose it. It’s a fact!” Furthermore, his doctors also frequently warn him that if he continues the stressful physical activities, he could end up in a wheelchair.

    The Disease Is Not Fatal

Thankfully, the disease Jet Li has been facing is not life-threatening. A lot of concerns came out when in 2018 a very senile-looking photo of Li circulated on Twitter. Fueling the concern was his own statement in 2017 where he said that medications are not enough as the disease keeps coming back.

Thankfully, Jet’s manager dismissed any negative rumors about him and stated Li was completely fine. Removing all the doubts from the public, the manager said: “It’s one picture and people are making these interpretations from it. If you took a picture of me at the wrong angle and wrong time of the day, I could look frail as well. We appreciate everyone’s concern. But Jet is completely fine. There’s nothing wrong with him”.

He further added: “There’s no life-threatening illness. He’s in great shape.” This sentence from the manager calmed the heart of all the fans worried for their beloved actor. However, hyperthyroidism never stopped the actor to continue acting.

Li Survived A Tsunami In 2004; People Presumed Him Dead

The incident dates back to 2004. When in Maldives, Li and his daughter were hit by a tsunami during the 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake. That particular event turned out to be a life-changing moment for him as he told Newsweek: “That day in the Maldives was a real turning point for me. I had spent the first 41 years of my life thinking about Jet Li first, wanting to prove I was special, wanting to prove I was a star.”

According to him, the water rose so suddenly that a giant wave came rolling toward him. “People started running toward the hotel, but they were still laughing. I picked up my 4-year-old, Jane, while the nanny took Jada, and we turned toward the hotel. In that instant, the water rose to my knees,” said Li to Newsweek.

The event also led people to believe that Li died in the tsunami. However, he only suffered a minor foot injury caused by a floating piece of wood while running and saving his family. Thankfully, some people also helped him during the near-to-death experience.

In return for the help, he planned to start a foundation named One Foundation which aims for disaster relief with the motto, one person+ one yuan per month =  one big family.

What Is Jet Now In 2023?

As of 2023, Jet is happily traveling around the world. He spends most of his time exploring and visiting new places. He frequently attends a lot of retreats and meditation camps around the world that bring him peace.

Similarly, he is also an active producer in Hollywood. Even though he has not landed any movie roles recently we can expect him to continue producing movies even today and in the future. Moreover, Jet Li also is a philanthropist who has a foundation named One Foundation and also runs his online martial arts academy called Taiji Zen.

In his free time, he loves physical sports like playing badminton, and table tennis, and riding a bicycle. Also, his love for reading and meditating is undying, and collects rare Tibetan beads whenever free.

    Did Jet Li Quit Acting?

From the looks of it, we can somehow speculate that Jet Li has quit acting. But, we have to be careful about the fact that he has not released any official note regarding his retirement from acting.

His last role was in the 2020 Disney movie Mulan. Truth is, he initially rejected the role of Mulan but his two daughters insisted their dad take the role as they loved the animated version of the movie.

Since then, he has not taken any roles or movies to keep him busy. One of the solid reasons could be his disease which has been restricting him from taking big roles for a long time.

    Where Does Jet Li Reside?

Currently, Li lives in his Singapore home. He bought the mansion from Frank Benjamin of FJ Benjamin for a whopping $2o million. He purchased the property back in 2009 and now the valuation of the property might have skyrocketed a lot. The total area of the property is 22,723 sq.ft., and it cost Jet $871/sq.ft.

From the aesthetics of the house, it can be seen that it resembles an English classic luxury home with a grand entrance. However, reports suggest he does not actively reside in that home as his daughters have gone abroad for studying. And, his charity works also vary from place to place so he does not have many reasons to stay there all the time.
